Besides the person you’re choosing to spend the rest of your life with, there’s no doubt that some of the biggest decisions you will make will be around your wedding.
There are so many vendors to consider, and once you have your dream team of vendors, there are decisions to make – like flower colour and style!
Florals really set the tone, atmosphere, and ambiance for your day, serving as a key feature that ties together all elements – attire, stationery, venue and styling. They ultimately convey your aesthetic and the overall feel of the wedding! Whether you’re a fun, outgoing, and bright duo or a refined, classic, and romantic couple, it’s all able to be represented in your florals!
If you feel these words used to describe my style resonate with you, I might be a good fit for you: romantic, cottage flowers, dreamy, overgrown, effortless, whimsical, ethereal, fun garden inspired, spring, handpicked and lush.
In saying that, it can sometimes be difficult to pinpoint the colour scheme to go with, even if you have the style down pat. Below are a few points to consider if you are stuck on colour palette:
- Wardrobe and Home Décor: I find this one the most telling. Look at the colours you naturally gravitate towards in your wardrobe and home décor. This can be a great indicator of your natural, preferred aesthetic.
- Preferred Florist: If you have an ideal florist in mind you hope to book, is there a particular colour scheme that stands out in their portfolio, or that is repetitive? This can often help, as most florists have a particular colour palette they predominately work with.
- Pinterest Boards: What colours and styles have you pinned on your Pinterest board? Lemon silk bridesmaids’ dresses and soft glam makeup? Or mismatched tea length pastel dresses with a vintage twist? If you use Pinterest, what you pin can often reflect your subconscious preferences.
- Your Relationship: When you think of your relationship and your partner, what do you feel? Bright, warm and excited? Relaxed, calm and heartfelt?
- Your Venue: Take into consideration the venue you have selected. Do you love how lush and green it is, or are you imagining that colourful flowers will fill the space?
When selecting the vision or the style of flowers you’re after, this doesn’t necessarily mean you need to know exact flower names, but more if you like the shape of the designs and the way they are put together. The words I would use to describe my work is wild and whimsical, and designed a soft handpicked-in-spring sort of feel. I wouldn’t describe my work as refined, structured, sculptural, and bold, because these aren’t accurate descriptions of the work I produce. Some florists also only work in specific colour palettes. If you look at my Instagram, you’ll see I predominantly work in soft pastels or warm gelato shades. I don’t have hot pink, dark purple, or red on my feed because these aren’t the styles or colour palettes that represent my brand.
But, the most important thing when choosing your florist, is to go with a florist who you trust and love their work already. If you love a specific florist’s work and everything they do, it’s a good indicator to book them as you can consistently trust them to create something gorgeous, regardless of colour palette. When considering your florist – besides style – also consider their reputation, experience, and confidence. When you feel confident in your florist, you can relax and enjoy the beautiful process, because you know that they are beyond capable and will create something gorgeous for you.
